Are you a seasoned and creative professional with experience in integrating a marketing and communications strategy within a fast-growing organization? The Communications and Marketing Director reports to the Executive Director and is a member of the Fargo Park District senior leadership team. This position requires a seasoned, skilled and creative leader to ensure an integrated marketing and communications strategy is developed and executed across a park district that aspires to be among the top districts in the country. The director will serve as the chief strategist and architect for marketing, branding, media relations and communications across the District, facilitating a collaborative networking effort that enhances brand and regional reputation among key stakeholders and target audiences within the community.

The director will be responsible to develop and manage the District's comprehensive marketing, media, communications and branding strategy to build brand awareness and external recognition for all park district programs and initiatives. Experience with new initiatives large in scope is particularly beneficial in this role. This position serves on the executive director’s leadership team working closely with department management to coordinate communications and incorporate all activities into an overall marketing and branding strategy. This position will manage an internal marketing and communications staff and subcontract services as appropriate. Develop and ensure adherence to the communication and marketing budget, develop measurable tracking methods for public relations, marketing, and advertising campaigns. Will analyze data to develop concise reports and recommendations, as well as develop a digital marketing strategy that employs the web, social media, and emerging technologies to create and disseminate content that supports the District's priorities, including news stories, project updates, and community involvement initiatives.

Success in this leadership role is positioning the Fargo Park District for long-term growth and increasing future community awareness by establishing consistent brand identity and being a known face of the District for ongoing communication media.

The first year in this position will consist of:

  • Identifying the best opportunities for increased visibility for the District including media and public relations, association memberships, employer outreach, website content and development, and paid marketing efforts
  • Developing a plan to integrate the various company websites from a design and technology perspective through a needs and functionality requirements assessment and establish a project budget to present to the board.
  • Ensuring consistent and current branding in all Fargo Park District locations.
  • Implementing an all-encompassing social media strategy and collaboration plan.
  • Assess departmental tasks, projects and staffing needs while determining any efficiencies that can be made in current processes.

Experience and Skills:

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or related field is required. Graduate degree in a related field is desirable. A minimum of five years of experience in marketing and communications or public relations with demonstrated success is required. Knowledge of various marketing and communication’s theories, concepts, techniques, media and strategies are also required. Demonstrated experience of increased responsibilities in past positions will need to be proven.

Successful applicants must have the ability to write for various audiences and in various formats, manage/supervise employees, and develop/implement a strategic plan. Experience with business development in regard to sales of advertising and sponsorship desired. Also, the ability to manage multiple programs and meet challenging deadlines is a must.
