Summary

The Fargo Curling Club

This position is responsible for the oversite of the Fargo Curling Club including operations, maintenance, and staffing. Responsible for the upkeep of the building which includes overseeing the cleaning crew, regular maintenance and repair of building equipment, and ordering of supplies. Operationally, this position coordinates and supervises the rentals and staff working with the rentals, will contact sponsors and works with vendors as well as be responsible for the ice facility systems during months of ice operation. Also has the responsibility to provide daily/weekly deposits to the Board Treasurer. Directly reports to the Fargo Curling Club board.

 

Fargo Park District

This position is responsible for the maintenance of Block 9 owned and operated by the Fargo Park District during all seasons of the year. This position will work closely with all other departments within the Park District. This position will be engaged in construction, repair or maintenance of Block 9. This position will work with ice facility systems, turf related maintenance and aquatics pool type equipment, operate a variety of equipment related to these facilities and assist with training and supervision of part-time seasonal staff. This position is responsible for the beautification, maintenance and construction of Block 9. Directly reports to Block 9 Manager.

 

We anticipate a split in these duties throughout the year with the Fargo Curling Club being the primary from October-March and Block 9 April - September, however, multi-tasking both entities will be required throughout the year. Must be available to work nights and weekends as part of the regular scheduled work week. This position is exempt, working the number of hours required to get the duties of the position done. On average can expect to work a minimum of 45 hours.

 

Essential Functions

The Curling Club

  • Corporate Events and Club Rentals: Market and promote curling and the rental of the facility for corporate events and private parties utilizing the resources of the Fargo Park District Marketing team.
  • Facility Maintenance: Maintain facility in a clean and professional manner. Perform a daily check of all areas of the curling club ensuring the facility is in professional and presentable conditions. Areas include ice facilities, bathrooms, and offices. Directing and scheduling the daily cleaning schedule ensuring areas are cleaned in a timely and complete manner. Staying current with new cleaning products and methods and guarantee cleanliness standards are upheld. During winter months, ensure all sidewalks are clear of snow and ice.
  • Ordering and maintaining supplies Ordering all custodial and maintenance supplies. Will maintain the supplies ensuring the proper number are on hand. Will order and maintain supplies through paperwork and a file system. Ensure ordering and maintaining supplies are done in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Communication: Maintain an active membership database and interact with members to answer questions in an effective and timely manner. This will be through phone calls, emails and in person.
  • Staffing: Responsible for the scheduling of bartenders (paid staff and volunteers), cleaning staff, event staff along with delegating out the work, overseeing that the assignments are completed and provide feedback and discipline as needed.
  • Event Supervision: Responsible to supervise events and leagues or have someone else assigned to oversee them to ensure "manager on duty" as things arise, to handle emergencies and to ensure high level of customer service to the rental parties and league participants. This may require arranging for security depending on the event.
  • Vendor Contact: Be available for deliveries, review and update contracts and handle any issues that may arise.
  • Finance and Administration: Daily processing of all receipts, member charges, payment of invoices and tracking of receivables and expenses plus preparation of members’ monthly statements.
  • Organization’s Performance: Effectively manage the organization’s resources (staff, volunteers, materials, assets and budgets) through measurement, planning and control
    to achieve established results. Accountable to meeting the expectations of the Fargo Curling Club board.
  • Meet with the Club President, Vice President, Treasurer and Committee Chairs as necessary.
  • Attend monthly Board meetings and submit an Operations Report at each meeting.

 

Fargo Park District

  • Facility Maintenance: Maintain facility in a clean and professional manner. Perform a daily check of all areas of Block 9 ensuring the facility is in professional and presentable conditions. Areas include ice maintenance, refrigeration equipment, turf facilities, splash park aquatic equipment, bathrooms, warming house and offices. Directing and scheduling a daily cleaning schedule ensuring areas are done in a timely and in a complete manner. Staying current with new cleaning products and methods. During winter months, ensure all sidewalks are clear of snow and ice. Coordinate with Fargo Park District Maintenance staff on maintenance projects.
  • Staffing: Analyzing staffing needs to maintain custodial standards and making recommendations to the Block 9 Manager. Hire and supervise full and part-time staff. Supervise staff to ensure completion of daily work assignments; help make field decisions regarding job procedures; work standards and equipment use. Train full and part-time staff on monitoring, maintenance and servicing of equipment to ensure operational standards. Ensure the facility is staffed and coordinates the daily activities of assigned full and part-time staff.
    • Establish and enforce work methods, procedures and standards that assure all maintenance activities are in compliance with Park District policies and safety standards.
    • Meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve special projects and workload issues, provides assistance and training in all areas of responsibility and works with employees to correct performance deficiencies.
  • Ordering and maintaining supplies of Block 9. Ordering all custodial and maintenance supplies. Will call vendors of supplies and receive the right product for the right price. Will maintain the supplies ensuring the proper number are on hand. Will order and maintain supplies through paperwork and a file system. Ensure ordering and maintaining supplies are done in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Outside Contractor Work: Calls on contacts and directs contractors for licensed work as needed. Plan and coordinate construction projects with other departments and staff within the Park District.
    • Budgeting: Work closely with the Block 9 Manager to develop and work within a budget relating to equipment, supplies and staff.
  • Ice Requirements: Ensure the building, ice and refrigeration equipment are in proper condition to provide a safe environment for user groups and the general public. Will require set up and removal of temporary structures.
  • Splash Park Maintenance - Be familiar with aquatic type pool equipment which will be used for recirculatory water treatment system for splash park.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain all equipment used for Block 9, ensure it is used in a proper and safe manner. Will repair equipment as needed and have the proper staff repair the equipment. Will help in the decision of what type of equipment is needed for the department. Ensuring equipment is properly stored and returned to proper departments. Will train staff on the proper use of equipment, ensuring all safety guidelines are followed and consistent with the Park District policies.
  • Program/Event Set up: Working closely with the Block 9 Manager and Event Specialists, will collaboratively coordinate all equipment needs and setup for programs/events at Block 9.

 

Experience and Skills:

Education/Experience -- A minimum of a Two (2) year secondary degree is preferred along with having three to five years of experience in facility scheduling and/or facility maintenance and three to five years of supervisory experience. Due to the variety of duties in this role, the degree can be from a variety of studies, such as but not limited to; Business, Management, Hospitality, Facility Management, etc. Previous experience working and/or managing oversight of an ice arena or curling facility and have mechanical, pool chemical systems and plumbing aptitude is preferred.

Credentials/Licenses/Certifications - Must possess a valid driver’s license and a CDL or willingness to get CDL in the first 6 months is preferred.
